In the early 1800's, Unitarianism broke with mainstream Christianity, such as Congregationalism, due to doctrinal differences and disagreements on the source of religious faith. The major steps in this path were sermons preached by William Ellery Channing in 1819, Ralph Waldo Emerson in 1838, and Theodore Parker's in 1841.
