On October 31, 2009, I attended a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the decision in Syracuse, NY, to establish a union between the Universalists and the Unitarians. A year and a half later, in 1961, the Unitarian Universalist Association was officially born. The word order or the resulting association gave Universalists the noun; the Unitarians were relegated to adjective.
